Waypoint Digital Marketing are delighted to be supporting St Cross Symondians Cricket Club in Winchester for the 2nd year running – look for our sign board in front of the main club house.
As one of the largest cricket clubs in the country, St Cross Symondians CC field 6 senior men’s sides on Saturday in addition to the other weekend and mid-week fixtures. Alongside this, the club runs one of the largest and most successful junior sections in the region as well as a senior women’s and 3 girls’ teams.
The club, although relatively new (formed in January 1992 by an amalgamation between St Cross CC and Old Symondian Battery Ramblers), plays on ground steeped in cricketing history, having been first played on in 1872 by the Rifle Brigade and from 1885 by the Green Jackets Club.
St Cross CC, one of the oldest clubs in Winchester was founded circa 1873 and Old Symondians CC in 1952. Since its inception, Old Symondians CC amalgamated with Stanmore Ramblers in the late 1960’s and Oliver’s Battery in 1989, a club originally started in the late 1940’s.
St Cross Symondians CC has ECB Focus Club accreditation for Central Hampshire and has produced 3 players since 1992 who have gone one to play First Class Cricket – James Adams (Hampshire), John Francis (Somerset) and Simon Francis (Notts and England A). The current Under 19 England Captain is Jo Weatherly who is also a member of St Cross Symondians CC.
